Jebel Akhdar & Diana's Viewpoint
Drive into the clouds β 2,000m up to cool air, canyon views and terraced villages.
What you'll do
Jebel Akhdar, the 'Green Mountain', is Muscat's great escape: 10β15Β°C cooler than the coast, with the Saiq Plateau's terraced rose gardens, canyon-edge viewpoints and easy village walks.
Diana's Viewpoint β where Princess Diana stood in 1986 β is a free, fenced platform on the canyon rim with a view that silences even teenagers. The three-village walk (Al AqurβAl AynβAsh Shirayjah) among the terraces is doable with kids from ~6.
Important: the mountain road checkpoint requires a 4WD vehicle β saloon cars are turned back. Go up for the day with a picnic, or make it a weekend at one of the plateau hotels.
π Bring & wear
Jumpers even in summer (it's genuinely cool), picnic, sturdy shoes for the village walk, full fuel tank before the climb.
