Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
Walk under one of the world's largest chandeliers in Oman's most breathtaking building.
What you'll do
Oman's grandest mosque welcomes non-Muslim visitors every morning except Friday. Inside the main prayer hall: a 14-metre Swarovski crystal chandelier, one of the world's largest hand-woven Persian carpets, and marble courtyards that seem to go on forever.
Kids are welcome β the sheer scale works on them the way castles do β and the gardens and arcades give room to move between the showpiece halls.
It's free. Dress matters: everyone covers shoulders and knees, and women (and girls from around age 7) cover their hair. Abayas can be borrowed/hired near the entrance if needed.
π Bring & wear
Modest clothing for everyone (shoulders/knees covered); headscarves for women and older girls. Socks are handy β shoes come off indoors.
