Muttrah Souq
A treasure-hunt maze of lanterns, frankincense and pocket-money souvenirs.
What you'll do
One of the oldest markets in Arabia, Muttrah Souq is a covered maze of alleys off the corniche stuffed with lanterns, textiles, gold, spices, frankincense and every souvenir a child could point at.
Kids love it as a treasure hunt: give them a rial each and let them haggle for a trinket. The main artery is stroller-passable; the side alleys are where the adventure is.
Go in the evening when it's buzzing and cool, then walk the corniche past the fish market and watch the dhows.
π Bring & wear
Small cash for haggling. Modest dress is respectful.
