Bimmah Sinkhole (Hawiyat Najm Park)
Swim in a glowing turquoise sinkhole that legend says a falling star made.
What you'll do
An hour and a bit down the coast road towards Sur, the earth simply opens into a 20-metre-deep limestone bowl of impossibly turquoise water. Legend says a meteorite made it β the name means 'the falling star'.
A staircase leads down to the water's edge inside the fenced free park, and confident swimmers can jump in with the tiny nibbling fish (a free pedicure, the kids will tell you). Non-swimmers paddle on the shallow shelf.
It's a natural pairing with Wadi Shab, ten minutes further on β sinkhole swim first, wadi hike after, or the reverse.
π Bring & wear
Swimwear (modest β shirts over swimsuits are normal), water shoes for the rocky shelf, towels, snacks and plenty of water. No food sold on site.
π‘ Family tips
- Mornings are quietest; tour buses arrive late morning
- The rock shelf is slippery β water shoes save toes
- Supervise jumps: the water is deep but entries are rocky at the edges
π» Facilities
- Free parking
- Shaded picnic gazebos
- Basic toilets
- Stairs down to the water β not stroller suitable below the rim
