What you'll do

Bandar Khayran is a maze of rocky coves and islets just along the coast from Muscat, reachable only by boat — which is exactly what makes it feel wild despite being 20 minutes from the city. Half- and full-day trips leave from Marina Bandar Al Rowdha in Sidab, motoring about 20 minutes out to sheltered snorkelling spots with good visibility, reef fish, rays and turtles, and a real chance of dolphins on the way.
Operators provide snorkelling gear and permits, and longer trips add a BBQ lunch on board. Children from around 5 can snorkel in a life jacket with close supervision, and younger kids are usually happy just riding the boat and watching the scenery.
Book a day or two ahead, since boats are small and fill up, and bring sun protection — there is very little shade once you're out on the water.

🎒 Bring & wear

Swimwear under light clothing, reef-safe sunscreen, a rash vest for sun protection while snorkelling, and motion-sickness tablets if you're prone to seasickness.
